Work    |    Info

Working across lens-based media, installation, performance, and writing, Kwan Q's practice examines the relation of conflicts within postcolonial, technopolitical, and ecological explorations. The artist voyages into marginal space between discourses in destablising established perception, whilst foregrounding affective and poetic experiences.

Kwan Q’s work often manifests in a set of temporary and performative scenarios to invoke alternative narratives aesthetically and intertextually. Her recent work includes peripheral blood stem cell transpant (PBSCT) documentation following botanical and medical-historical explorations (“O, Engrave You New”, 2024), improvised scenarios of exchanging cultural gestures - an interrogation of the intricacy of friendship in this hyper-mobile era (“Non-Arrival, Yet, in Proximity”, 2022); a staged life-drawing session within the mechanical penthouse of a nanotechnology laboratory (“Infinite Replicas”, 2021); a speculative fiction juxtaposing the prevalences of machine dreaming and human insomnia (“Insomniac/Amnesiac”, 2021); and expansive portraits of urban weeds as a proposal of incessant performance against increasingly programmed urbanity (“Weeds”, ongoing).
